MoU Signed to Implement Water Harvesting Project at Dibeen Forest Reserve

The Ministry of Environment and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement a water harvesting project at the Pottery Workshop at Dibeen Forest Reserve – Economic and Social Development Workshops, with the aim of promoting the sustainable management of water resources and protecting natural resources within the reserve.

The MoU was signed by Minister of Environment Dr. Ayman Suleiman and Director General of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature Fadi Al-Nasser, in the presence of Secretary General Dr. Omar Arabiyat.

Funded through projects of the Jerash Governorate Council under the decentralisation programme, with a total value of JOD 18,000, the project aims to enhance water resource management efficiency at the Pottery Workshop by collecting, storing and reusing rainwater. This will contribute to reducing water consumption, adapting to the impacts of climate change, and improving environmental infrastructure within the reserve.

Dr. Suleiman said the project demonstrates the importance of adopting sustainable solutions for water resource management within nature reserves. He noted that it will contribute to rationalising water consumption and adapting to the impacts of climate change, highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature and various stakeholders to protect natural resources and support sustainable development in nature reserves.

Al-Nasser, for his part, said the water harvesting project at the Pottery Workshop represents a practical step towards improving water-use efficiency at Dibeen Forest Reserve through rainwater collection and reuse. He noted that the project will support the sustainability of the workshop, conserve natural resources, and promote economic and social development within the reserve.

The project includes the establishment of an integrated rainwater harvesting system for the Pottery Workshop, covering all necessary civil and mechanical works required to collect, store and reuse rainwater in accordance with approved technical specifications.

The project aims to promote the sustainable management of water resources within the reserve, reduce reliance on conventional water sources, and support the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in implementing sustainable environmental projects within nature reserves.

The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the integration of nature conservation with economic and social development and to develop practical solutions for natural resource management, contributing to biodiversity conservation, improved water-use efficiency, and the long-term sustainability of nature reserves.
