The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature launches the “Nature Station”

Amman- Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Education, The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in cooperation with Arab Bank launched the “Nature Station” travelling exhibit at 5pm, Monday, September 26th at Wild Jordan Center in Jabal Amman.

The exhibit, which is sponsored by Arab Bank as part of its sustainability program “Together”, ran in parallel with the world celebration of Biodiversity Day. The exhibition aims to shed a light on the rich biodiversity in Jordan and all the threats it faces.

“The idea of the ‘Nature Station’ exhibit came from RSCN’s philosophy to spread awareness on the importance of nature and how to conserve it by focusing on the reserves; getting to know them, their locations, the biodiversity in each one and all the projects which were done by RSCN in those reserves which created different job opportunities to the surrounding local community,” Mr. Mohammed Yousif, Director of Conservation Division at RSCN said.

Mr. Yousif added that RSCN realizes that the responsibility of conserving Jordan’s huge nature needs efforts, which can’t be shouldered by RSCN alone, so cooperation agreements with a group of national organizations were done by RSCN to contribute in these efforts. This exhibit is the result of the cooperation and support of Arab Bank and a group of volunteers from its employees.

"Arab Bank’s commitment towards local communities and our support of the RSCN reflects our belief that this pioneering initiative will play an important role in promoting environmental awareness amongst the different segments of society and  identifying the most remarkable environmental features of Jordan in order to protect them for future generations, " Mr. Tareq Haj Hasan, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Arab Bank said. “It is worth mentioning that RSCN’s dedication towards emphasizing the role of community members in conserving their surrounding environment is based on thorough studies and strategic planning,” added Mr. Haj Hasan.

The “Nature Station” is designed to target all the community segments, especially children, to make them gain the needed knowledge for how to enjoy their surrounding environment and conserve it from tampering and vandalism at the same time, which would represent the main objective of this exhibit; raising environmental awareness.

RSCN intends to hold the “Nature Station” exhibit at public places such as parks, schools, malls, youth centers, after its official launching at Wild Jordan Center.

Twenty volunteers from Arab Bank in addition to another 20 volunteers from RSCN are participating in presenting the “Nature Station” exhibit. The volunteers have gone through intensive courses about conservation, nature reserves and biodiversity in Jordan. The role of the volunteers is to share all the gained information with the exhibit visitors.
